Toledo Bend Reservoir Fishing Report
December 10, 2013
This report is based on the areas above the Pendleton Bridge and including the areas of the old 1215 Highway and San Miguel creek and Lanan creeks.
Water Level: 168.45
Water Temp: On the Main Lake 52 degrees and in the creeks 54 degrees.
Generator: 1 Running 8 hours a day. 12 to 8
Generator: 2 Down
Spillway Gates: closed
Current Flow: 204cfs
Crappie: The water temperature is still coming down and this will move the crappie to the backs of the creeks and to the deeper water out next to the old Sabine River. When the water temperature get down between 45 and 50 degrees the bite should be good again. We are getting reports of some crappie being caught but reports are spotty. With as much rain as we ha had the water level is up and down. We don’t need the muddy water at the Coops and it appears that is happening.
Bass: Bass fishing was great this past week when you could fish ,our last trip was good in 54 degree water fishing 24 feet deep, the afternoon was better than the morning all fish where caught on Carolina rigs and drop shot and several on a spoon. The bass are not everywhere but if you find the shad in 24 to28 feet of water you will find some bass on the edges of the deep drops. The shallow bite has been slow since the water temp has dropped below 54 degrees.
Be sure to attend some of the area Boat Shows in your area of the country during January and February. Fishing equipment has changed drastically in forty plus years of bass fishing. The prices of the equipment have increased drastically also in the last 40 plus years. They have made many great improvements from electronics to Power Poles that work good in 8 feet or less but a Bass is still a Bass for forty plus years the funny thing is it just cost more to catch the Slimy green fish called a bass. Just poking a little humor but I am really laughing at my self. I have walls full of fishing tackle and continue to buy more always looking for that secret weapon. Ha Ha
We have had some extreme weather lately so dress warm .That includes the gloves to go with every thing else and hand warmers to put in your jacket pockets. You might want to keep an extra set of clothes in the boat in case of emergencies
Happy Holidays from Covington Guide Service and thanks to all the people that have fished with us this past year and in years gone by THANK YOU VERY MUCH. With out the people we would not be able to do what we do and that is fish on the Great Lake in the South TOLEDO Bend Reservoir.
