Toledo Bend Reservoir Fishing Report
October 9, 2017

Lake level is @ 167.97 and water temp. is around 81-83 deg. The lake has dropped over 5' in the last month. SRA has stopped generating so the lake should have a chance to rest and the fishing should only get better. Smaller Bass are starting to move into the creeks along with a few bigger bass. With every cold front the fishing will only get better. The bigger stringers are still being caught offshore on  Texas Rig, Carolina rig , jigs and crank baits. Your electronics play a key role in finding these offshore fish. If you can find the big schools they will be hungry and will bite all of the above. My go to color has ben RedBug. There has ben some good fish being caught shallow on a chrome/ black back rattle trap. I've ben throwing these rattle traps on shallow points and around shallow ditches close to the creeks. The shallow bite will continue to get better as we get a few more cold fronts. As long at it stays warm you can count on the better fish coming from the deeper water(10-20'). There is a lot of fish being caught back the creeks on spinner baits, rattle traps and shallow diving crank baits. This last weekend in the Media Bass tournament there were some heavy sacks brought to the scales( 3 stringers over 25lbs each). Fishing can be tuff but there are plenty of fish that are hungry, so just stick to your strengths and keep moving until you find them.

Crappie are still in the brush off of points and drops on the edge of the creeks in 15-20'. Hopefully with the water level being somewhat low we will get a cold winter to fire up the bite at the Chicken Coop. Low water level and a really cold winter should make that river bite exciting. Minnows have ben better for me the here lately. Jig bite is still good but the better crappie have ben coming off minnows.
