The observation tower provides a view of the dam and south end of the lake and the spillway.

Toledo Bend Dam Observation Area – Texas

The SRA-TX Toledo Bend Dam Observation Area, at the dam and just off Highway R255 on Spur 135, is also the home of the headquarters of the Toledo Bend Division of the Sabine River Authority of Texas.

The observation tower provides a good view of the lake from the inlet for the generating station and into the distance of the lake as it disappears into the North horizon. Public restrooms are also located in the base of the observation tower. Grassy and beach areas provide access for picnicing, swimming, and fishing.

Sabine River – unofficial area – West side of Spillway

This area is maintained, but not prepared as nor offered as a “park”. It is open when the spillway is closed; closed because of high water when the spillway is open. It is a quiet, pleasant little spot that many people like to fish from and a great place to picnic or swim.

The entrance is a road next to and on the west side of the spillway (not the generating station). Take the entrance (below left) and follow it back, bearing to the left. You’ll come to the end, where a hairpin turn takes the road back up the river a little way.
