Tonight at the Cypress Bend Meeting about SRA-LA water sales to Texas………The contract is postponed until the state of Louisiana has a chance to make a long term water usage assessment. Senator Gerald Long (LA) will be introducing a bill into the Senate & House to get this underway. So as of today the Texas Partnership from Texas will not be getting a contract with SRA-LA for water sales from Toledo Bend.
Coming up on January 17th the SRA’s will be holding meetings for public comment on the Preliminary Draft Recreation Plan portion of the re-licensing agreement. The recreation portion of the contract should be very important to all of us in this organization. The Texas meeting is Tuesday at 6:00 pm at First Baptist Church (Family Life Center) in downtown Hemphill on Hwy 87 South. The Louisiana meeting is also Tuesday at 1:00 PM at the SRA-LA office at the Pendleton Bridge on Hwy 6 (Texas Hwy). All the comments from these meetings will be submitted in writing to Mel Swoboda, Licensing Mgr., Toledo Bend Joint Operation, P. O. Box 579, Orange, TX 77631 or to firstname.lastname@example.org by the February 6, 2012 cut-off. This is the link to the 40 page draft for recreation:
Since legislation was approved and implemented to cease power generation once a Lake Level of 168’ msl is reached, meeting attendance decreased dramatically (proverb: “Lower lake levels bring more people while higher levels run them off”). The Board of Directors first voted to reduce meetings to each quarter, still attendance dropped. Presently the Board of Directors will hold only annual meetings to seek input from Lake People and provide status of the Lake and TBBSA proposed projects. The first annual meeting is scheduled for Monday January 23, 2012 at 6:30 Pm. A spaghetti dinner with dessert and drink will be served at the Senior Citizens Center at 561 Starr St. on Hwy 184 W. The Board may elect to hold other meetings as Lake Conditions direct.
Hope to see all of you at the 1/23 meeting if not before!
