A community that is known only by its residents and by people who live close by is that of Jamestown. This community by that name is not one of the old communities. It is really of Twentieth Century origin.
Jamestown was established in 1911 as a post office and named for James Westbrook, the first postmaster. It is located in northwestern Newton County and is a rural community seven miles northwest of Newton. The population consists of farmers, stockmen, and timber workers. It is in the Burkeville-Wiergate Independent School District.
