For The Seniors:
Senior adults in Sabine County can enjoy a variety of activities at the local Senior Citizens Centers. The centers are located on Hwy. 184 West in Hemphill and on Dogwood Street in Pineland. The centers are operated by East Sabine Senior Services, a non-profit organization which was chartered in 1987. Participants at the centers can enjoy a hot meal at lunch time, along with many games and visiting. The East Sabine Senior Services also provides hot meals to the homes of senior adults who can not get to the Senior Citizens Center.
UCS helps others:
The local United Christian Services represents 24 church groups and was organized for the purpose of giving assistance to the those who are in need in Sabine County. The UCS is located across from the Sabine County Jail on Hwy. 1 84 West. The non-profit organization is manned by an all-volunteer staff and is supported financially by churches and others who are interested in helping the needy in the community. The UCS office is open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and may be phoned at (409) 787-3425.
