SAM RAYBURN FISHING REPORT
Big Sam remains big! Yesterday the level was 171.99 or over 7.59 ft. over full pool. Full pool on Rayburn is 164.4’ msl. They are ruing both generators 24 hours. I fished Rayburn Monday and we caught bass both shallow and deep. The grass line (hydrilla) is from 7 to 11 feet. We caught some bass inside the grass line (2-6 ft.) with Texas rigs. It was slow Monday morning with water temps 52-53 degrees. It did warm up and we found a group of bass staging in 20 to 24 ft. and we were able to catch several on a drop shot rig. Our set up was 10 pound test, 7’ medium action Ugly Stik spinning rod with Abu Elite spinning reel.
We are using a Fusion drop shot hook (#1) with a Bottom Hopper Jr. in morning dawn with a 3/16 oz. drop shot sinker. We were ‘nose hooking’ the Bottom Hoppers and fishing it vertical. As I mentioned earlier, electronics are critical when drop shotting because I won’t stop to fish without seeing bait and fish. Everything I mentioned previously is important to catch these bass…..at least in my mind. Without confidence, you will catch very few fish. Every time I go fishing, I feel we will catch fish. We may not load the boat every trip but we usually catch our share.
