VIRGINIA MITCHELL BAILEY
August 7, 1925 – June 1, 2003
MEMORIAL GARDEN
“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”
Sonnets from the Portuguese – 1850
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

This beautiful botanical garden has been lovingly planned and provided by her devoted husband of 58 years, Dr. Ted Bailey, along with children and grandchildren. The names of all members of the family (53), can be found on the scripture rocks placed with care throughout the garden.

Virginia’s parents Maude & Dr. J. G. Mitchell, first brought Virginia to this area of the bluff on the Sabine River, at age 12. They said to Virginia, that some homes should be built on this bluff one day. In 1998, Virginia was finally able to begin a residential development on that same bluff, now overlooking Toledo Bend Lake. She named it Bailey Bluff.

Among the many remarkable qualities of Virginia’s character, was her determination that quality and beauty would be the hallmark of all family real estate developments.

This watered botanical garden with its paved walkways, iron entrance Arbor, three swan fountain, four seasons and St. Francis statuaries, stone benches and scripture rocks, is an appropriate way to both honor the Lord and to be a fitting memorial to Virginia……a beautiful loving wife, a wonderful mother of five, an inspiration to 22 grandchildren, and an outstanding Christian business woman.

Her children arise up and call he blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Proverbs 31:38
