This biennial event is sponsored by Pineland Service Club and will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 in Pineland, Texas. Pineland Day is a time of fun and activities while raising funds for community type projects. Traditionally, thousands of visitors turn out for Pineland Day festivities, which have been held every two years since 1957.

Groups begin holding fund raising events in late August and continue until Pineland Day. Each group has selected a candidate for Miss Pineland and the young lady representing the group raising the most funds will receive this coveted title.

Pineland Day 2001 will begin with a huge, gala parade through downtown Pineland. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday on FM 1 – South Temple Avenue at the FM 2426 – Denning Street intersection. The parade route continues north to Maple Street and turns west on Maple making its way to the Katherine Sage Temple Park. Parade prizes will be awarded and the judges’ reviewing stand will be located at the downtown square at Veterans Memorial Park.

Persons or organizations interested in entering the parade should contact Lyndon Jones at (409) 584-4240.

Following the parade, feslivities will begin at the Katherine Sage Temple Park. The drawing for the Pineland Day grand prizes will be among the activities on tap as well as the crowning of Miss Pineland.

Shuttle busses will be delivering visitors from the downtown area to the park.

A full day of feslivities will he held at the park, including arts and crafts booths for displays and sales. For information about arts and crafts or booth space rental, persons may contact Fatsy Kilcrease at (409) 584-2826.

Various groups and arganizatians will have booths set up at the park Saturday for food sales. Groups wishing to get booth space may contact Albert Welch at (409) 584-2377.

Plans are still being finalized for several class reunions to be held on this day in conjunction with Pineland Day. Many of these are being held at the campus of West Sabine High School, located on Timberland Highway in Pineland. West Sabine High School, as well as West Sabine Elementary School, located on North Temple Avenue, Pineland, will be open from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. for former students’ visits.

Arthur Temple Sr. Memorial Library will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with an open house from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M.

Pineland Day will climax with a dance in the park from 8:00 p.m. to midnight.
